Warning Signs Of Termites In Dallas Homes
Subterranean termites are incredibly sneaky. Worker termites have a strong aversion to light and avoid exposure to dry air. They keep themselves well hidden, most of the time. Here are a few possible exceptions.
Swarmers — Winged termites do not have an aversion to light. It draws them. Termites develop into alates (termites with wings) and work their way out of the nest through the tunnels toward the light. If they emerge inside your home, you're likely to notice them. Unfortunately, most of the time, they will find their way outside. You probably won't see them when they do because swarms don't last for more than about 30 minutes. Swarmers can emerge, swarm around together, and be gone before you get back from eating out at a fast-food restaurant.
Wings — When swarmers mate, they shed their wings. If a swarm happens while you're gone, you may come back to find tiny white wings on your window sills or structures outside. These wings are tiny and light. It doesn't take much of a breeze to blow them away. So this sign can be very subtle.
Shelter Tubes — When worker termites go from the soil to the wood of your home, they build shelter tubes up hard surfaces because they can't eat their way through concrete, bricks, and other hard building materials. If they do this on the outside of your foundation walls or interior walls, you may be able to see them. Keep in mind that outside shelter tubes are likely to be hidden. Remember, those termites don't like the light, which leads them to create tubes under decks, porches, patios, stairs, and crawl spaces. They also build tubes in hidden places on the interior of a home, such as the backs of closets, inside wall voids, and in the void underneath jetted tubs.
Have you noticed any of the following warning signs of termites around your home? If so, don't wait; contact the pest control pros at All-Safe Pest & Termite today and learn more about how one of our comprehensive termite protection plans can keep your investment protected.

Guide To Avoiding Carpenter Ant Damage In Dallas, TX
Carpenter ants are large ants that create a lot of damage in Dallas homes and businesses. In our area, carpenter ants can be black, red, or a mixture of both.
Carpenter ant workers are about 5/8 of an inch long, making them the largest species of ants you'll see inside your home. If you need more identification, you can capture one with clear packing tape and examine the ant closely. Look at the waist of the ant, between the thorax and abdomen. If you see a single node there, that is all the confirmation you need. A large, black, and with one node is a black carpenter ant.
Often, the first sign of carpenter ants homeowners see are winged ants; because the worker ants are nocturnal and prefer to do their nefarious deeds under the cover of night. Winged ants can appear in the daytime, especially in the spring. If you see a large black ant with wings, you're looking at a flying carpenter ant. Termite swarmers are also black and have wings, but you don't have to worry about mistaking a carpenter ant for a termite swarmer. A flying carpenter ant will be more than an inch long. A termite swarmer will be less than 5/8 of an inch, including its wing length.
When black carpenter ants get into Dallas homes, they usually target areas damaged by moisture. If you have rotting wood, this is the first place you should check for carpenter ant damage. This damage will look just as you would expect it to look. It will appear as if insects are chewing on your home, which they are. You may also notice trenches or tunnels. These will be smooth to the touch. If you uncover termite tunnels, they will have a gritty texture because subterranean termites bring soil into their tunnels.
Tips You Can Use To Prevent Carpenter Ants
Although carpenter ants are similar to termites because they create tunnels within the structure of a building, a key difference between termites and carpenter ants is that carpenter ants do not eat wood. Instead, they carve out tunnels and galleries to form their nests. These large networks of tunnels and nesting galleries are incredibly destructive and can weaken the structure of your home or business building over time.
To avoid finding carpenter ant damage in or around your Dallas property, we suggest implementing the following prevention tips:
- Reduce sources of food. This includes open trash cans, crumbs on your floors, exposed pet food, and food items left on your countertops.
- Eliminate excess moisture. Many insects are attracted to moisture, including carpenter ants. Reduce sources of moisture by repairing leaky pipes, installing dehumidifiers, and clearing debris from your gutters.
- Seal any possible entry points that could allow carpenter ants inside. Installing door sweeps on exterior doorways, sealing gaps around your foundation, and replacing torn window screens are a few ways you can exclude carpenter ants from your building.
Carpenter ants can inflict a lot of damage to your Dallas property, and that's why professional carpenter ant control and prevention are so important. Common Cockroach Threats Found Inside Dallas Homes
While all cockroaches are terrible pests to have, they are not created equal - some roaches are bigger threats than others. This is because they have different behavior patterns. Some are more prone to getting into homes and staying inside. Some are able to tolerate dry conditions. Some are downright gross. In our Dallas service area, we have four cockroach species that are common structure-invading pests. Here's what you should know about them.
The Oriental Cockroach
Probably one of the most disgusting cockroaches that can get into your home. Oriental cockroaches are large, dark-colored insects that live in the sewer system and can get into your home through pipes and drains. The only upside to these roaches is that they don't prefer to stay in your home. They like to be in damp areas. If you don't have a damp cellar or some plumbing problem, these cockroaches may go back outside on their own. But not before they make you sick by exposing your food, dishes, silverware, and food-prep areas to harmful organisms they carry on their bodies.
Identification: At about 1 inch long, these roaches are hard to miss when you flick a light on and send them running for the dark crevices of your home. They are primarily black with some dark red, and they have a shiny exoskeleton.
The American Cockroach
An American cockroach is at home on the damp ground under a brush pile. It prefers to be outdoors. But, as you're probably aware, they do make themselves household pests. While they are certainly drawn to damp areas and can live in the sewer system as Oriental cockroaches do, they can tolerate being in man-made structures that have areas of high humidity. You'll find these insects residing in the voids of your bathroom or your basement if your home has one.
Identification: At 1 1/4 to 2 1/8 inches long, these are the largest cockroaches you'll find inside your Dallas home. They are a sickly chestnut color and have a yellowish-orange eight on their back, just below the head.
The Brown-Banded Cockroach
These little insects are permanent guests. When they get inside, they are happy to stay. One reason they do so well inside man-made structures is that they can live in dry conditions. You can find cockroaches harboring in any location within your home that is dark and secluded.
Identification: These are brown cockroaches with light bands of color that run across their wings. They're the smallest cockroach on our list. An adult brown-banded cockroach is only about 1/2 an inch long.
The German Cockroach
The German cockroach is the most successful structure-infesting insect in the world. Like its cousin, the brown-banded cockroach, this roach is in your home for the long haul. The worst structure-infesting insect, its claim to fame, is its ability to live with scarcity. It is nearly impossible to eliminate these roaches by removing food and water sources.
Identification: At between 1/2 and 5/8 inches, German cockroaches are slightly larger than brown-banded cockroaches. They are tan with a dark brown equal sign on their back, just below their head.

The Key To Effective Centipede Control In Dallas
Centipedes in Dallas are anything but a welcome sight. These uncomfortable creepy crawlies can be found in many different rooms of our homes, wandering through our basements, sneaking through our bathrooms, and taking up residence around kitchens and pantries. Although most centipedes are not dangerous to humans, their presence is anything but desirable, and the painful, venomous bites they leave behind are extremely unpleasant.
If you're dealing with an infestation of centipedes in Dallas, then you need the help of a professional pest control company. Our team will work diligently to identify the source of your infestation and create a customized treatment plan to round up the centipedes and keep them from returning. Don't Wig Out About Earwigs In Your Dallas Home
Of all the occasional pests around Dallas, few are as frustrating or disturbing as earwigs. Many old wives' tales cite these bugs as a dangerous household pestilence, crawling into ear canals to lay eggs and raise their young. The humid weather and year-round heat only serve to encourage their populations, which are growing larger and stronger as the years continue.
Thankfully, you don't need to wig out about earwigs around your Dallas home. Not only are these pests completely harmless to people and pets, but getting them out of your house has never been easier. All you need is some time, patience, and a little bit of professional help.
Here's how to get rid of earwigs around your Dallas home:
- First, make sure that you're actually dealing with earwigs (rather than another species of insect). These pests are long and thin, with a pincer-like appendage on their backside. If you are having difficulty identifying one of these bugs, the pros at All-Safe Pest & Termite would be more than happy to inspect the grounds on your behalf.
- Once you've identified the pest, it's time to create a plan of action. Earwigs are most active at night, so your first step should be to cut off their food and water sources. Make sure that all your trash cans have tight-fitting lids, and clear away any standing water around your property. All stagnant pools, flowerpots, and pet bowls should be quickly drained and dried appropriately.
- Finally, it's time to take action against the earwigs themselves. Over-the-counter sprays and other DIY treatments are largely ineffective against these pests, so your best bet is to get in touch with the professionals at All-Safe Pest & Termite. We offer guaranteed services, interior warranties, and low toxicity solutions for all our customers, allowing you to live earwig-free in confidence.
As soon as you're ready to kick your earwig infestation to the curb, the team at All-Safe Pest & Termite will be ready and willing to help. We are available throughout the week to take your questions or comments, but if you need faster service or have an emergency situation, don't hesitate to give us a call right away.
Why Stinging Insect Infestations In Dallas Should Be Left To Professionals
When stinging insects like bees, hornets, and yellow jackets decide to set up shop on your property, it can feel as if your entire yard is totally off limits. These pests are not only a nuisance to local home and business owners but can also pose a serious threat to your health and well-being, especially if you are allergic to their venom.
Stinging insects are certainly not pests to underestimate. Any sized colony around your property could affect your home and family in a number of ways, not the least of which is less time outdoors, painful and venomous stings, and the risk for infection, allergic reactions, and anaphylactic shock.
If you think a stinging insect infestation has taken up residence on your property, it is important to take action immediately. However, this is not a job for you or your family. Attempting to remove a stinging insect nest on your own can be incredibly dangerous and often does more harm than good. These pests are highly protective of their young and will not hesitate to sting anyone who gets too close.
The best way to remove a stinging insect nest from your property is to contact the professional pest control experts at All-Safe Pest & Termite. We have the experience, training, and equipment necessary to take on even the most difficult stinging insect infestation and have done so for thousands of customers throughout the Dallas area. Not only will we be able to eliminate these pests from your property, but we can also help you prevent future infestations.
There are three reasons why our professional stinging insect control is safer, faster, and less harmful to the environment:
- We have the experience and training necessary to take on even the most difficult stinging insect infestation. Since 1984, our team has been a primary provider of seasoned, experienced stinging insect control. We would be honored to provide the same utility to you and your loved ones.
- We have the equipment necessary to remove pests safely and effectively from your property. Everyone on our team has access to personal protection equipment and full bodysuits, which allows them to quickly address nests and their lingering problems without the risk of dangerous stings.
- We can help you prevent future stinging insect infestations from occurring. It won't take us long to identify the source of your concern, enabling us to provide educated suggestions about what you should do next.
